WEEK 1- LANGUAGE OF THEATRE/PRODUCTION PROJECT 29TH/30TH AUGUST

Thursday 29th August

We started by getting into groups and we were told to create a short piece and use aspects of what we knew from a dolls house to do this.  This basis was taken from the summer work that we did in the holidays and so we had an all-round idea in terms of how we attempted our pieces.

We decides to create a piece on puppetry. I firstly lowered myself and hung over the chair and then my partner entered the scene whistling and whilst doing this I was gradually rising up to a front facing position and embodied a doll like manner. Alongside this I was staring out into the audience whilst my partner was grabbing my hair

At one end of the room people were told to be Nora at the beginning of the play and at the other end was Nora at the end of the play. This was a really insightful concept because it made me understand Nora's development in the play and it also made me aware of how this development could effect others around her.
Both sides started to walk around in the space knowing only the information of what type of Nora we was which was either her at the beginning of the play or the end in terms of her mental state. This was very exploratory as we had to move around as if we were free and had never step foot 'outside' before as she had been trapped or locked away inside the house. I portrayed this aspect of naivety by using a slow pace when i was walking around the space and was very careful as i took my time.

We then had three stages added, this was 1) to find the opposite Nora at the other end of the room 2) to have some dialogue between each Nora and 3) to mirror each others actions. Each stage was able to show a comparison.

1) This stage had an objective behind it and so it made it interesting as it felt like we were trying to achieve something. When looking for another Nora it felt as if i was trying to find myself and this helped me get into the character more.

To deepen this understanding we then used music to enhance the feelings we felt and this made the performance more believable as I connected with the emotions that the music was giving me

2) This was a very beneficial aspect in terms of gaining more knowledge about Nora's development

After we had to put our pieces of work into a performance which was to be performed to the whole strand on Friday. We started by having the boys who were playing Torvald sitting around the room amongst the Nora’s at either ends in chairs. Whilst they were sitting  around the room they adopted an action of either; playing chess, reading a book

Friday 30th August

On Friday we had to perform our pieces of work to the whole Theatre strand, this was very exciting and turned out to be very intriguing as it allowed me to see the different ways in which people interpreted the characters, storyline and their specific situations.

The first group showed
